Subject: American Legion Post 126 High School Oratorical Scholarship Program 2024-2025
-
The Executive Committee of American Legion Post 126 has approved a local monetary scholarship for students who participate in the American Legion’s Oratorical Contest for 2024-2025.
-
Specifics are outlined below:
-
Post 126’s scholarship for this contest year will be $500 plus additional travel expenses as required by the Contest.
-
In order to receive this award, the student must:
-
Prepare an Oration in accordance with the Program Rules for 2025, published separately.
-
The Contestant must give his or her prepared oration to a panel of judges from Post 126 and Perquimans County High School.
-
The Contestant must also respond to an assigned topic discourse from the panel of judges, as also outlined in the Program Rules for 2025.
-
-
If there is only a single Contestant then he or she will be awarded the scholarship provided the above three requirements are satisfactorily met as agreed upon by a simple majority vote of the panel of judges.
-
The Post 126 winner, or single applicant if that be the case, will have an opportunity, if recommended by the panel of judges, to compete at the American Legion Division 1 level, March 1, 2025, held in Roanoke Rapids, in order to receive an additional $500 added to the scholarship. The applicant does not need to win at the Division level in order to receive the scholarship.
